Original brocade, felt and yak's fur dance mask of Ngompa the Hunter, from a traditional Tibetan opera.
Ngompa is a shamanic hunter figure in the operas, who dances to introduce or close each performance. The dancer portaying him traditionally holds a magical arrow to attact the essence of wealth, and the dance of Ngompa is said to bring blessings on those who see him dance.
The mask is worn by means of a rec cloth bag which sits behind it , towhich the face is attached. The wearer puts the bag on and in that way wears the face.
The mask is hand made and used. It is in good condition with all the conch sells attached (there is only traditionally one hanging from the nose), although the lest hand tassle that hangs from the projection from the top of the head is missing.
A Large mask it would make a stunning feature hung on anyone's wall.
