COPY OF CROW NATION SUNDANCE DOLL (Item No. Doll 02)

Price: £75 (including postage worldwide)

Origin: Made by Nicholas Breeze Wood
Age: 10 years approx
Height: 300mm (12 inches approx)

This is a copy of an original C19th Crow Nation Sundance doll made for a photograph in a book on ritual objects (Voices from the Earth: Nicholas Breeze Wood: pp102).

The doll is made from painted buckskin, stuffed with sweetgrass and buffalo hair. It is dressed with original C19th sky blue prosser trade beads and an actual eagle claw. The hair of the doll is made from coyote fur.

Original sacred dolls are at the centre of the Crow Nation's sundance ceremony, and Nicholas made the doll to resemble an original C19th doll as much as he was able, using the same materials as the original where ever possible.

Although this doll was hand-made with sacred materials and great care it is not intended to be an actual sundance doll, it was simply an interesting craft project made for the book, and only should be considered as a decorative item.
