MONGOLIAN SHAMANS BELL (Item No. Bell 01)
Origin: Mongolia
Age: 100 - 300 years approx
Bell Height: 90mm (3.5 inches approx)
Bell Diameter: 79mm (3.2 inches approx)
Price: £135 (including postage Worldwide)
A nice, well cast, antique white shaman's bell.
In Mongolia and much of Siberia there are two forms of shaman, the white and the black. This is nothing to do with good or evil, it simply differentiates the different roles each type take in ceremonies and shamanic practice.
The bell started it's life as a Buddhist bell, which many shamans bells are, but during it's history the vajra top of the bell has been removed an a metal loop added, to which part of an offering scarf (khadak) has been tied to form a loop for the shaman to put around their wrist while it is being played.
This bell does not currently have a clapper, but the hole underneath the bell to fix one, is still there, and it would be a very easy job to tie a new clapper on. The easiest way to do this would be to tie a small nut (from a nut and bolt) or some other small piece of metal on a cord. It would take a matter of moments to do.
The bell is a beautiful example of an old shamans bell and would be perfect for shamanic practice.

TIBETAN BUDDHIST DRILBU AND DORJE (BELL AND THUNDERBOLT) SET (Item No. Bell 02)
(Sanskrit: Ghanta and Vajra - Tibetan: Drilbu and Dorje)
Origin: Mongolia
Age: 80 - 200 years approx
Bell Height:140mm (5.5 inches approx)
Bell Diameter: 69mm (2.9 inches approx)
Dorje Length: 109mm (4.3 inches approx)
Price: £185 (including postage Worldwide)
An old, well made, Drilbu and Dorje set.
This Buddhist ritual set comes from Mongolia and is very fine, with nice patina and wear consistent with it's long ritual use. The vajra and the top of the bell have slightly different shapes, so they are not quite a 'matched' set, but they were used as a set and they are similar and of the same metal colour and age.
The bell is without Buddhist decoration and symbols, and is often the sort Mongolian white shamans like to use. It is in good condition with a nice sound, although if it was my bell I would shortern the length of the cord holding the clapper a little to make it ring better.

TIBETAN BUDDHIST TINGSHA SET (Item No. Ting 01)
(Tibetan: Ting-shags)
Origin: Tibet
Age: 20 - 50 years approx
Diameter: 69mm (2.9 inches approx)
Price: £40 (including postage Worldwide)
A set of Buddhist ritual cymbals.
Tingsha are used in Tibetan Buddhism as part of specific rituals, very often associated with food and food offerings, where they are rung to summon 'the hungry ghosts'.
Nowerdays the new age movement has started to use them to mark the start or end of meditations and other activities, but that is not their real purpose.
This is a nice well made set, engraved with two dragons and two dorjes on the top of each cymbal - leaving the undersides plain. They have a good sound, although they are not a matched set - ie, they both have slightly different sounds when struck.
Suitable for ritual or newage use.
SHAMAN'S BELL AND IRON CHAIN SET (Item No. Bell Chain 01)
Origin: Nepal
Age: 50 - 150 years approx
Chain Length: 830mm (37 inches approx)
Bell Width: 28mm - 34mm (1.15 - 1.35 inches approx)
Price: £135 (including postage Worldwide)
A nice, heavy and loud set of shaman's bells from nepal. Nepali shamans wear such bell sets around their neck or shoulders and the bells jingle loudly when the shaman dances or performs ceremony. They are an important part of a shamans ritual costume.
This set contains twelve bells fixed to a simple iron chain. All the bells are in good condition except one which has a split in it. Some other bells have small casting holes in them which does not effect their sound. The hole does not effect the sound of the bell.
The bells are mostly tiger bells, except instead of a tiger's face, the bells are decorated with tiger stripes. Some of the bells have the number 20 on them, an I presume these are a type of commercial bell. Other bells have simple flower shapes amidst the tiger stripes. Some of the bells have cloth strips tied to them.
Shaman's bell and chain sets are often not easy to find, and this is a nice example of one.

QUARTZ CRYSTAL - ROCK CRYSTAL BUDDHIST DORJE (Item No. Dorje 01)
(Sanskrit: Vajra - Tibetan: Dorje)
Origin: Nepal
Age: unknown
Length: 93mm (3.7 inches approx)
Price: £110 (including postage Worldwide)
Well carved quartz dorje.
Rock Crystal has been used in Tibetan Buddhism for many centuries as a symbol of emptiness, and so for a long time hand carved crystal objects have been used as sacred objects. This is probably a more recently made dorje and was probably not done by hand, but it is, none the less, a splendid rock crystal object that would be suitable for putting on an altar or using in ceremony.

BUDDHIST DORJE (Item No. Dorje 02)
(Sanskrit: Vajra - Tibetan: Dorje)

Age: 80 - 20 years approx
Length: 115mm (4.5 inches approx)
Price: £22 (including postage Worldwide)
Nicely cast dorje. From the same source as the one above

A set of three, hand-made, iron, shaman's jingle cones, fixed on an iron ring.

I have managed to obtain a small quantity of recently made cones, made by a blacksmith in Mongolia for use by the local shamans. Numbers are limited, and I do not know if I will be able to get any more once they have sold out.
