This is a beautiful, very old toli (Siberian Shaman's Mirror) from Mongolia.

It was used by a shaman in healing and other protective rituals. Most likely worn around the neck, it would have been used to empower other objects and healing liquids, as well as protecting the shaman from spirit attack. A mirror like this is a very important shamanic tool.

The back is plain except for the ridge often found on such mirrors. It has some wear and scratches to the front - with it's survivng tin surface, which is quite shiny still - but no more than would be from normal use and this is evidence of its long life.

A very special ancient mirror with a great deal of sacred history.

The back is plain and it has a shorted string tied around it, passing through the hanging hole found at the back of Siberian mirrors. It has some wear and scratches to the front - but no more than would be from normal use and this is evidence of its long life.

A small toli (Siberian Shaman's Mirror) with some age, from Mongolia.

The mirror is well made, but shows somecorrosion on the back and a little on the front - although it is still sound and wearable. I suspect from the corrosion it is an excavated piece, many mirrors and other sacred objects were hidden or buried during soviet times to keep them safe. It is fairly dirty, and if it was mine I would clean it before I used it or wore it.

It was used by a shaman in healing and other protective rituals, worn around the neck. Because of its small size it was may have been tied to another object to empower it, or worn around the neck by a shaman as a personal protection amulet. Small mirrors like this are sought after because they can be worn all the time under clothes.

Its face has been polished in fairly recent times so give a high shine (although you can still see age spots in the metal which the polishing has not been able to remove), but the back has been left untoched and still shows the original age patination.

The mirror is not very well cast at the back, and the letters are really only infact four squares that would be unreadable, but which denote the four directions. Beyond the bad letter casting however, the mirror is well made and the face of the mirror shows quite a lot of signs of use, with a fair few marks and scratches.

An interesting and unusual mirror, for use on a Shamanic or Buddhist altar.

The mirror would probably have had a bass in the past, enabling it to stand up. Mirrors like this are placed on altars, especially in Tibetan Buddhism. It is however posible to hold the mirror by the lug at the bottom and sometimes mirrors like this are held inthis way for the empowerment of people or objects and the blessing of spaces.

It was used by a shaman or a Buddhist lama in healing and other protective rituals, and to symbolise emptiness.

The back is decorated with what appears to be a stylied lotus flower rising from leaves, which possibly indicates a more Buddhist history than a shamanic one.

A fairly recently made brass Buddhist altar mirror (melong).

It was used by a Buddhist lama on an altar to symbolise emptiness. In Nepal these mirrors are also used by shamans, they are placed on altars, and the shamans undertake shamanic journeys into the mirror - using them as a spirit portals to Middle World.

A very nice altar object, mirrors like like are hard to come by.

An old Buddhist altar mirror stand made of bronze set upon a lotus throne surmounted by a moon disc.

It would have been put on a Buddhist altar, and a mirror fitted to it.

It is very well made, and is a very nice altar object, mirror stands like are very rare indeed.

This is an attractive, decorated, quite heavy, well made toli (Shaman's Mirror) from Inner Mongolia or China.

The mirror is probably a fairly recently made copy of an older one, It is however attractive, with a raised decoration. It has probably never been used by a shaman, but many shamans seeek out mirrors like these to use in their practice.

It is suitable to be worn around the neck on a cord, and it could be used to empower other objects and healing liquids, as well as worn as a protective mirror amulet.

The mirror is in good condition.

There is an ancient small casting hole in this mirror which can just be made out about half way between the bottom of the mantra and the bottom of the mirror on the mantra side. This is an ancient casting mistake and does not effect the strength of the mirror in any way.
