A beautiful, hand carved and painted traditional Hopi katchina doll. The doll represents the Corn Maiden and takes the form of Hopi girl with typical unmarried hair style.
The doll is carved from a single peice of wood (probably cottonwood) and is shown wearing a cape over her shoulders. The doll is painted, and although some of the paint has rubbed off over time most of it remains.
A most beautiful older doll, suiteable for placing on an altar or as an object of display.
COPY OF CROW NATION SUNDANCE DOLL (Item No. Doll 02)

This is a copy of an original C19th Crow Nation Sundance doll made for a photograph in a book on ritual objects (Voices from the Earth: Nicholas Breeze Wood: pp102).
The doll is made from painted buckskin, stuffed with sweetgrass and buffalo hair. It is dressed with original C19th sky blue prosser trade beads and an actual eagle claw. The hair of the doll is made from coyote fur.
Original sacred dolls are at the centre of the Crow Nation's sundance ceremony, and Nicholas made the doll to resemble an original C19th doll as much as he was able, using the same materials as the original where ever possible.
Although this doll was hand-made with sacred materials and great care it is not intended to be an actual sundance doll, it was simply an interesting craft project made for the book, and only should be considered as a decorative item.

BUFALO HORN FOR SWEAT-LODGE (Item No. Doll 02)

This is a natural North American buffalo horn. It is the sort of horn used traditionally in a sweat-lodges to pour water onto the hot rocks. It came from a Native American woman who was a fire keeper at traditional women's sweat-lodges in the USA as part of a trade made with Nicholas; although this horn probably has not been used in ceremony.
It is ideal horn for use in sweat-lodge or for craftwork.
CARVED WOODEN FACE RATTLE (Item No. Rattle 002)
Origin: Asian Copy of Native American - Tlingit or Haida

This beautiful carved and painted copy of a traditional rattle is in the shape of a head with a face. It might represent a Bear spirit, or the spirit of Bakwas, the 'Wild man of the Woods'.
The rattle is in perfect condition and is all carved from one piece of wood. It has a bound rope grip on the handle.

A simple hand cut pipe-stone bear fetish, made by a Native American craftsman. the fetish is carved from a flat slab of pipe-stone and is suitable for putting on an altar.

A large simple hand cut pipe-stone bead, made by a Native American craftsman. the bead is carved from a nice piece of pipe-stone and has a nice large hole in it so it is suitable for putting on a cord and wearing. It was made by the same craftsman as the bear fetish above.
