CARVED YAK HORN SORCERER'S HORN - Thun-rwa (Item No. Ritual B01)

Price including postage: £1695 (Worldwide)

Origin: Tibet or Nepal
Age: 50-80 years approx
Length: 193mm approx

Am exceptionally beautifully made, very rare Tibetan carved yak horn Thun-rwa sorcerer's horn. Horns like this are filled with magically empowered things such as sesame and mustard seeds and blown or shaken towards an obstructing spirit in order to exorcise it. They are also filled with other items and used to magically harm or kill an emeny. Such horns are rare and can vary from very crude home made horns to very elaboratly made examples.

This is a very well crafted horn, beautifully carved with a figure of Mahakala and a Buddhist stupa. It's end is carved into a face which should be a Makara sea monster, but in this case looks more like a snow lion or leopard, and there are carved 'spots' on the horn which might indicate a leopard possibly.

The end of the horn is decorated in well worked silver set with coral and turquoise.
The end of the horn is sealed by a wooden plug set with a bone top, carved with a scorpion, a wrathful symbol. There is a silver plug for the hole in the head end of the horn.

This is a very rare and beautifuyl example of very fine construction, a true magical work of art.

CARVED BONE FLAMING SKULL TANTRIC CROWN SET (Item No. Ritual B03)

Price including postage: £695 (UK) £715 (World)

Origin: Tibet or Nepal
Age: 30-100 years approx
Width of Central Skull - flame tip to flame tip: 108mm approx

An exceptionally rare set of carved bone flaming skulls, one central one with two side flames, and two more skulls on each side with only one flame each. These are carved from the end of thighbones, and appear to be human bone, although without tests it is impossible to be completely sure that they are.

Originally they would have been stitched to a fabric band, perhaps with smaller bone beads between them, and this would have been a ritual tantric crown, worn around the head during ritual dances. The skulls have the original sewing holes, which were drilled into them when the crown was first made.

The skulls are in beautiful condition and the whole set is a stunning and rare object, suitable for display, or as offerings on a wrathful altar, or if sewn to a cloth strip, used in ritual dance by a Tibetan Bhuddist practitioner.

PHURBAS - RITUAL DEMON KILLING DAGGERS

Phurbas are ancient ritual objects, used within Himlayan Shamanism and Tibetan Buddhism. They are used to pin down or kill obstruction spirits - both internal and external ones. Intermally they are used in a kind of ritualised Buddhist psychotherapy practice, to pin down and destroy ones own inner demons. Externally they are used to pin down ghosts and harmful spirits, protect people and places and have many other uses. They are also used to bless and empower things.

Phurbas come in many forms and sizes, and are generally made in metal or wood, or though sometimes other material such as animal horn and bone are used. Iron phurbas are considered to be especially powerful, although shamans in Nepal tend to favour carved wooden ones.
